Skull Nails

As its the 31st of October this Friday I decided to do a Halloween themed post. After thinking about what I should do, I decided to do a step by step tutorial for "skull nails". These were fairly easy to do and I'm sure that if I could do it anyone can. I know I'm not a nail expert and these are no where near a proffessional standard, but I thought I'd just share a fun little design.

The finished look

What you will need:

  • Base Coat (optional)
  • White nail varnish
  • Black nail varinsh
  • Top coat (optional)
  • Dotting tool
  • Thin brush
If you do not have a nail brush or dotting tool you could use a toothpick.

Step 1

If you wish, paint your nails using a base coat. This stops your actual nails staining once you remove the nail polish.

I know my nails are in serious need for TLC...

Step 2

Paint your nails white. You may have to do several layers to make sure the colour is bold.

One layer

Two layers

Step 3

Carefully draw the jaw-line onto your skull.

Step 4

Using the dotting tool (or tooth pick) draw two circles for eyes. You may have to use quite a lot of nail varnish to get a big dot.

Step 5

Using less varnish, draw two slightly smaller circles in the middle of your nail. This is your skull's nose.

Step 6

Draw a thin, horizontal line connecting both jaw-lines. Then draw small, vertical lines along it. This creates the mouth effect.

Step 7

Again, if you wish, you can add a top coat. This will keep your nail varnish on longer and also prevent chipping. Voila: Your skull nails are now complete!

Finished!

I hope you enjoyed reading about how I did my nails this halloween. Let me know in the comments how you did your nails xxx

Beauty Q and A with Lauren

This is a guest post with the absolutely gorgeous Lauren Williams who runs a blog about fashion and art. I interviewed her in a "Beauty Q and A" where I asked her 10 things.

Some Of Lauren's Amazing Illustrations

1. How long have you been interested in beauty and fashion?

I've been interested in beauty and fashion for a long time now and the earliest memory I have of it was being a real fashionista at the age of 9.

2. What do you rather never wear mascara again or never wear lipstick again?

I'd rather never wear lipstick again, only worn it a few times but Mascara is something I use everytime I put makeup on so I would be incomplete without it.

3. Must have item of clothing?

My must have item of clothing is a leather skirt to me, because you can rock it at all times.

4. If you had to dye your hair any colour, what would it be?

Well, I've never dyed my hair and I experiment with black hair extentions and weaves but if I had to dye my hair any colour it would be a dark red.

5. Favourite beauty guru/ style icon?

Zoella-Beauty, Wendy's Lookbook-Fashion

6. Does your dream job have anything to do with fashion?

It does! It plays a big role lol I want to be a fashion illustrator/designer

7. What beauty product could you not live without?

Well...That would be my Fashion fair concealer and foundation

8. What is your favourite shop and clothing brand?

My favourite shop is Bershka, absolutely love it and my favourite brand has to be Zara.

9. Have you ever had a fashion disaster (if so what was it)?

I've had a Halloween fashion disaster- I had to think up a costume late and I had to settle with this red dress and say I was a devil. Not the slightest bit convincing.

10. Describe your style in 3 words.

African, Bold, Urban.

Thank you so much for doing this post Lauren, it was really fun to read your answers. Don't forget to check out her blog: http://www.laureysfashion.blogspot.co.uk . Thank you for reading I hope you enjoyed it. xxx

Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser

As I'm someone who suffers from extremely sensitive skin, I decided to buy a Simple product because they specialise in it.

I brought the Hydrating Light Moisturiser for dry skin. The main feature of this product is that it says it lasts for 12 hours. And it really does! That's a lot better than some other brands that need to be topped up every few hours.

Another thing I love about this product is the packaging. My favourite colour is green and Simple's colour scheme is green and white. It just makes it look really smart, clean and...simple (no pun intended).

The colours even fit my room haha!

One thing I would have liked in this product is a nice smell. But I suppose Simple claim to keep their products natural by not adding things such as perfumes or dyes so I shouldn't really complain.

Overall this is a really good product that does exactly what it says on the tin. I highly recommend this to those with sensitive skin and even those without. I'm gonna rate it a 9/10.

Blog Update: Fashion & Reviews?

Since January, I've been running a blog about my general life updates.  A couple of months later I decided to start a blog dedicated to reviewing things. But recently I've wanted to start a third genre of blogging: fashion and beauty.

So I'm thinking of doing a little trial run by merging general fashion with reviews on this blog. *Disclaimer* I am in no way saying I know everything there is to know about beauty. Its just something I have an interest in as a hobby.

What would be new to this blog?

I wanted to add a few more features to my blog.  I'll hopefully be writing about:
  • Favourites (possibly monthly but I haven't decided yet)
  • Style appreciation. I'll write about who my fashion icons are and why I love their style.
  • Nail designs. Nails are literally my obsession.
  • Makeup advise. I feel like if I share my makeup disasters from the past (and believe me there have been many), it would save people from making the same mistakes I did haha!
  • Wishlists. I've seen quite a few bloggers write wishlists and decided to join the craze. I pretty much spend all day making these mentally so might as well write it on my blog.
  • Budget Beauty. I'm permanently looking for cheaper alternatives so when I find something good I'll write about it.

Will I still be writing reviews?

Yes, absolutely! The only reason I decided not to completely change the name of this blog to just "fashion" was because occasionally I might decide to review the odd random thing. E.g. books or films etc.

I'm just testing this idea for now and if it goes horribly wrong or it's badly received I'll stop. If you're reading this then thank you for putting up with my random change of plan. xxx

Eau De Teint Foundation

Whilst looking for some lighter foundation I stumbled across Eau De Teint by L'Oreal Paris. I brought it from Superdrug for £9.99.

Eau De Teint in the shade "Pure Beige"

I really like the fact that you can hardly feel or notice that you're wearing it. On good skin days I can just use a bit to even out my skin and not cover my whole face in heavy makeup. It's incredibly natural looking too.

Another thing I like is how blendable it is. A little does a lot with this foundation so I can actually use less on my brush compared to other brands. I still would have preferred it to be in a slightly bigger bottle though, as it only comes in 20ml.

What really let me down about the product was the packaging. Although the glass casing looks extremely elegant and classy, it does make it rather impractical. I feel like it could break at any moment!

Another difficulty with the packaging was that it comes with no pump. This means you have to pour the fairly runny mixture onto a makeup brush which is a messy experience, as you could imagine.

As a result of the disappointing packaging I'm rating Eau De Teint a 6/10. Nevertheless, I would still recommend this foundation to people who are looking for a lighter feeling foundation.

P.S. Love Natural Look Lashes

Eyelashes have become my new obsession and needless to say I cant stop buying false ones. I spotted these Natural Look Lashes for just £1 at Primark and I just couldn't resist trying them out.
For their extremely cheap price, I must say they do a good job. They are easy to apply (even I managed to do it) and come with glue in the pack. Like most lashes, you can trim them down to fit your eye size. Also, if you remove them well, they are reusable.
The eyelashes and glue

There were another 2 types of lashes by this brand but they were a bit bolder and thicker looking. I decided I would try the "natural" look first. However, I'm not sure how natural they look or feel. The lashes them self look very long and a bit exagerated. They look great when applied with a bit of eyeliner for a dressed up look. However, you wouldnt be fooling anybody by saying they were real!

I have a cold and look really ill so I'm not going to show my whole face but here's what they look like on:
Let's just imagine I bothered to put makeup on
and pretend that I don't look like a mess!

Next time I'm at Primark I will definitely be getting a few more, because for that price I might as well eh? I would rate these affordable lashes a 7/10.

Thanks for reading. I'll answer any questions in the comments xxx

First Episode Of Glue

I'm so excited to finally be able to write this post. Me and my sister have both been looking forward to this programme ever since we first saw the trailer.

The first thing that drew me in about "Glue" was the cast as I recognised most of them. Annie is played by
Jessie Cave, who played Lavender Brown in Harry Potter. Rob is played by Jordan Stevens, part of the singing duo Rizzle Kicks. Ruth and Cal are played by Yasmin Paige and Tommy Knight who are both known for their lead roles in The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Glue is set in a small, English village in the countryside. This eight-part series revolves around the mystery of a body found in the fields. The plot is about a tight group of friends, who are all trying to deal with the effects of what appears to be a murder. No one knows who the murderer is, yet alone why they did it or if they'll do it again.

The first episode set the scene and introduced the main characters. It ended on a cliffhanger, as mysteries do, making it clear that the group's lives will change forever.

If mysteries and crimes are your sort of thing (as in you like watching shows about it, not just in general) then you should definitely tune into E4 on Monday at 10pm.

This is exactly the sort of thing I obsess over quickly. I just feel sorry for my friends who are going to have to put up with me constantly talking about Glue for the next few weeks!

Did anybody else watch the first episode of Glue? If so what did you think?
